Abstract

This paper describes and analyzes a teaching experience conducted in a Municipal School of Basic Education Ulysses Leonel de Gasperi in Bento Gonçalves, RS. Through a teaching work methodology that favors the full participation of students in the active learning process, by conducting research activities, eighth grade students were challenged to seek possible solutions to the challenges faced in the dispute for spaces between agriculture and urbanization in the neighborhood in which the School is situated. In this process, the students were assisted by the science teacher and the school's Educational Advisor, who participated in a training course offered by UCS. The chosen problem encouraged the students to reflect on the importance of healthy eating through the construction of organic gardens, and to analyze if it is possible to implement behavioral changes, taking into account the past, present and future projections for the families of the neighborhood. The result was the wide participation of the students in the class who built a work that was presented at the II Mostra Científica do CARVI and was classified as the second best work presented in the 2019 edition.
