Abstract

This article rescues a little of the history and professional work of Professor José Carlos Köche, who retired after 45 years as a lecturer and manager of UCS and left a legacy in terms of actions and knowledge. His career marked by the duality of administrator and teacher had the goal of offering a quality Higher Education for the inhabitants of Bento Gonçalves, Caxias do Sul and region. From a personal experience of difficult access to education beyond primary school, he was one of the protagonists who contributed a lot to the greatness of the UCS, especially in relation to the Campus Universitário da Região dos Vinhedos, created from the regionalization of UCS that involved the lending between the Fundação Educacional da Região dos Vinhedos and the Associação Pró-Ensino Superior dos Campos de Cima da Serra with the FUCS. In addition to this history, we also sought to reveal a little more of the role of teacher, who through epistemology provoked reflections and intellectual growth of those who shared his teachings and "provocations."
