This article is structured around the analysis of Nietzsche’s lectures On the Future of Our Educational Institutions (1872), using them as a basis to discuss the philosopher’s critique of the education of his time and his defense of an education focused on Bildung. The text explores Friedrich Nietzsche’s criticism of the 19th-century German educational model, briefly contrasting it with the modern educational system. It is shown that Nietzsche argues that Prussian education, by bowing to state utilitarianism, compromises the holistic formation of the individual (Bildung) and creates incomplete citizens, oriented solely toward meeting the political and economic demands of the time.
