LEVEL OF MATURITY OF CORPORATE GOVERNANCE IN STARTUPS:
A STUDY AT THE VIÇOSA TECHNOLOGY PARK – TECNOPARQ
Keywords:
InnovationAbstract
Objective: To describe the maturity level of corporate governance in startups located within innovation ecosystems, highlighting how governance mechanisms influence their interaction with other actors.
Design/Method/Approach: Case study conducted in the residents program of the Viçosa Technology Park (TecnoPARQ), focused on startups in advanced stages of structuring. Data were collected through questionnaires directed to startup partners and analyzed according to the categories proposed by the Better Governance consultancy, adapted to the TecnoPARQ context.
Originality/Relevance: Addresses the limited understanding of how startups develop governance practices within technology parks, contributing to the discussion on the alignment between innovation, management maturity, and ecosystem effectiveness.
Main Results/Findings: Reveals an incompatibility between the verified and self-declared levels of governance maturity, showing that most startups still perform only basic governance practices despite operating in advanced innovation environments.
Theoretical/Methodological Contributions/Implications: Contributes to the literature by connecting corporate governance maturity with innovation ecosystem dynamics, offering a framework to assess governance evolution in startups.
Social/Managerial Contributions: Provides practical insights for technology park managers and startup founders to enhance governance mechanisms, strengthen stakeholder relationships, and promote the sustainable development of innovation ecosystems.
