Preliminary survey of the entomofauna of a rural property in Bento Gonçalves (RS)

Abstract

The main objective of this study was the comparison of entomofauna diversity with a previous survey, in July 2009, carried out in the rural property known as "Sítio Frank" in the Barracão neighborhood of Bento Gonçalves - RS. We defined three subareas, based on the previous research: Orchard, Agricultural, and Forest edge. In each subarea, the plots method was used, that is, the sampling area was divided into quadrants measuring 10m X 10m each. For the survey two methods of collection were used, one direct and one indirect. The entomological "umbrella" was the direct method used in the three subareas. As an indirect method, adhesive traps of yellow color were used in the orchard and edge of the forest, while pitfall traps were used in the agricultural subarea. The work developed between February 4 and 8, 2017, including the collection and identification of insects. Regarding indirect collections, in 2017, order diversity was higher in all subareas, while in umbrella collections diversity was lower in the orchard and agricultural subareas and slightly higher at the edge of the forest. The frequency of specimens from each Insect Order also varied, possibly due to seasonal fluctuations.
