Abstract

Ostracods occupy the most diverse humid aquatic and terrestrial habitats. This group uses different dispersal mechanisms in relation to the environment in which they are. Non-marine ostracods have several strategies related to environmental stress at continental bodies of water, such as parthenogenesis, and the resistance of eggs to desiccation. Strategies for marine species are not well documented experimentally, but some evidence is retrieved, as is the influence of man in unintendedly introducing the species. A new possibility of phoresy through marine turtles for the dispersion of marine ostracods is presented here.
