RDAS began its activities in 2011, at the time published in printed form and registered under ISSN 1677-2911.

Its mission is to contribute scientifically to the understanding and interpretation of environmental problems and their legality. It is a platform for debate and exchange of knowledge that supports the construction of institutional solutions for the various forms of environmental degradation, with the formulation of alternatives for the sustainable use of environmental resources and intra- and intergenerational environmental justice agendas.

The central theme of the journal is Environmental Law, as well as its interactions with other areas of knowledge, and its audience is academics (teachers and students) and professionals interested in environmental issues in a broad sense.

The RDAS aims to publish unpublished scientific articles in the area of concentration of the Master's and Doctorate Courses of the PPGDir/UCS, called "Environmental Law and Society". This proposal includes studies focused on the challenge of protecting the natural, artificial, cultural and labor environment, whether they are legal studies in the strict sense or interdisciplinary studies on environmental matters with legal relevance.

The Journal of Environmental Law and Society positions itself as a space of excellence for cutting-edge discussions, with analyses, diagnoses, prognoses and proposals focused on environmental, social and economic sustainability. Works carried out in a regional, national, international and comparative context are desirable; from a dogmatic or critical perspective.
