Abstract

Hospitality is a field of study that analyzes interpersonal relationships, and commensality, as a dimension that values the act of sharing food, stands out as a phenomenon that highlights social dynamics and its relevance for the emotional well-being of individuals. The act of eating together promotes socialization, communication, and strengthening of bonds, contributing significantly to the mental health of diners. Given the importance of sharing food, this article analyzes how the practice of commensality can positively influence emotional health. To investigate the emotional benefits associated with commensality, the mechanisms that support this relationship, and the effects of this practice on emotional well-being, the research was conducted through a narrative review of the literature, synthesizing current knowledge on the subject. The analysis highlighted how shared meal practices contribute to emotional health, connecting the findings to existing theories and evidencing the multidimensionality and complexity of this relationship.
