ESG Practices in Ecotourism
A Bibliometric Analysis
Keywords:
Toourism, Ecotourism, Management, ESG Practice, Protected Natural AreasAbstract
The bibliometric review on ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) and Management in Ecotourism or Natural Protected Areas revealed significant advances in literature and pointed out promising topics for future research. Although the concept of ESG emerged in 2004, academic attention to the topic in the context of tourism has intensified in the last five years. Research on management stands out for its emphasis on the preservation and conservation of ecosystems, fauna, and flora. In contrast, studies on ESG focus on financial indicators and market competitiveness. There are still a few studies that combine or compare these two terms, especially regarding Ecotourism or Natural Protected Areas. This research aims to list the advances in the literature on ESG and Management in Ecotourism or Natural Protected Areas and to point out potential research scenarios through a bibliometric review. The research, of a basic nature, adopts an exploratory and descriptive approach to deepen knowledge on these topics. The data were analyzed using VOSviewer and Microsoft Excel software, which allowed the creation of graphs, tables and figures. However, the research faced limitations, such as the search for terms exclusively in English and on a single platform, Scopus Preview.
