This study aims to analyze the perceptions of students from higher education courses in Tourism
and Hospitality at higher education institutions (IES) in Rio de Janeiro about internships and the
demands of the labor market. The approach to the theme takes place at a time when it is
necessary to understand the relationship between higher education and the market demands.
As methodological procedures, an online quantitative survey was carried out from February 21st
to March 31st, 2019, with 169 undergraduate students from the Tourism and Hospitality IES of
Rio de Janeiro and who were undergoing an internship or had already finished. The main results were: the concentration of the offer of internships in the private sector; satisfaction of students with the internship experience; interest of undergraduates in a greater offer of internship vacancies and in continuing their professional experience in the same organization. However, the point of attention is on the low retention of students who are interns in companies.
