Resumo

ABSTRACT

This essay review is not an applied research, nor ethnography conducted in dark tourism places, rather, it connotes with a conceptual debate respecting to the shifts in holiday-making process suffered recently. This marks the rise and expansion of a new facet of capitalism, Thana Capitalism, with a definite class, death-seekers who are prone to consume events, situations of pain and suffering to reinforce their own supremacy. Beyond the so-called interests or sensibility for the other, dark tourism practices hidden a perverse core which is unveiled in this discussion.

RESUMO

Este ensaio não trata de pesquisa aplicada, nem de etnografia realizada em locais de turismo ‘dark’, mas, sim, encaminha um debate conceitual sobre as mudanças nos processos recentes das viagens. Processos que marcam o surgimento e expansão de uma nova faceta do capitalismo, o Thana Capitalismo, que se caracteriza pela presença de uma classe de consumidores propensos a consumir eventos, locais e situações mórbidas ou situações de dor e sofrimento, para reforçar sua própria supremacia. Além dos interesses ou [in]sensibilidade para com o outro, as práticas obscuras do turismo escondem um núcleo perverso, revelado nesta discussão.

Biografia do Autor

Maximiliano E Korstanje, Universidad de Palermo

Maximiliano E Korstanje es profesor del departamento de Ciencias Económicas y miembro del centro de Investigaciones en Turismo y Hospitalidad de la Universidad de Palermo, Argentina. Con más de 800 artículos publicados en revistas especializadas y 25 libros, trabaja como Editor en Jefe del International Journal of Safety and Security in Tourism & hospitality (UP) y de International Jouranl of Cyber-Warfare and Terrorism (IGI Global US). En el 2015 es nombrado Visiting Research Fellow, School of Sociology and Social Policy, Universidad de Leeds, Reino Unido. Ha recibido nominaciones para 5 doctorados honoris causa por su contribución al estudio del turismo y el terrorismo.

 

En los últimos años, su interés estuvo abocado al estudio del 11 de Septiembre y su impacto en el turismo, el mal, la movilidad, el cine, la tortura, violación a los derechos humanos, y la economía entre otros temas. Su perspectiva del terrorismo apunta a una relación dialéctica entre un Estado incapaz de sustentar el orden y velar por los derechos básicos y un grupo de insurgentes que apelan a la violencia como método. Sus trabajos lo han llevado a co-editar la revista Int. Journal of Human Rights and Constitutional Studies (Inderscience), Event Management (Universidad Clemson, Estados Unidos) e Int. Journal of Tourism and Travels (Universidad Adnan Menderes, Turquía). Es miembro asociado del CERS (Centre for Ethnicity and Racism Studies, University of Leeds UK & Global affiliate del Tourism Crisis Management Institute. University of Florida, US.

 

Como investigador forma parte del proyecto “Seguridad, Derechos Humanos e inclusión Social en el Turismo para un análisis de la Seguridad y la accesibilidad para las personas con capacidades restringidas, Universidad Nacional De Quilmes, Argentina. Considerado uno de los especialistas más importantes en seguridad turística de habla hispana, actualmente se desempeña como colaborador, revisor, y miembro de Comité de unas 40 revistas científicas especializadas en desastres, turismo, estudios de riesgo y procesos de reconstrucción. Entre sus distinciones se destacan su inclusión en el prestigioso índice mundial Marquis Who is Who in the World (desde 2010), En el 2012 gana el premio en calidad y excelencia por su labor como “outstanding reviewer” de la revista Int. Journal of Journal of Disaster Resilience in the Built Environment (Universidad de Salford, Reino Unido) que otorga la cadena británica Emerald Publishing (West Yorkshire). En 2013 vuelve a ganar el mismo premio por la revista Place Management and Development. Institute of Place, Manchester Metropolitan University, UK. Para 2014 recibe la distinción como “Reviewer certificate” por la International Journal of Contemporary Hospitality Management, University of Central Florida US.
