A History of Tourism and of the “Wonderful City”

Abstract

The book History of Tourism in Rio de Janeiro is organized by Amanda Danelli Costa and Antonio Edmilson Martins Rodrigues and analyzes the interpretative aspect related to History and Tourism. The publication can serve as a guide to the current way of understanding the History of Tourism. This is a collection of articles that analyze the presence of tourism in the city of Rio de Janeiro, at moments spread across almost three centuries of the city's history. The articles are distributed in two parts, the first consisting of five articles and the second of seven. They reflect on situations in which tourism is the historical element to be analyzed, sought in significant daily manifestations of the history of the city of Rio de Janeiro, which, being the capital of the Empire and in the republican era, was the initial stage of what we today call tourist events.
