Abstract

With significant influence from its origins to the present day, the theory of the tourist gaze [TG] has raised questions rooted in the limitations of Western ocular-centrism in understanding the tourist experience. In response to these criticisms, some scholars have introduced the idea of ‘performances’ and performativities, thus repositioning the corporeality of subjects in tourism research. In this context, the aim of this study is to revisit performativities (and/or Performance) as analytical-conceptual devices for the study of tourism mobilities [TMs]. To achieve this, it reviews formulations in tourist performances, in line with the new mobilities paradigm [NMP], drawing on related concepts or ideas from literature available in English. The effort is transdisciplinary, as the authors referenced traverse various fields/social sciences. This article analyzes and disseminates a body of foreign production, aiming to problematize it within the field of Tourism Studies in Brazil and Ibero-American countries in general.
