Governance and Competitiveness of Tourism Destinations:
A Literature Review on National and International Scientific Journals

This paper objectives to systematize and evaluate the literature review based on national and international scientific journals on the constructs <tourism governance> and <competitiveness of tourism destinations>. This research is relevant, as it advances on the results of the study by Kubickova and Martin (2020) investigating theoretical relationships between tourism governance and the competitiveness of tourism destinations. Data collection was carried out through bibliographic research. Data analysis was performed using the VOSviewer software to analyze the co-occurrence of keywords and co-authorship. 1707 scientific articles were found in the following databases: Tourism Publications, Scielo, Brazilian Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations, Web of Science, Scopus, Science Direct and Ebsco. The results show that it is necessary to investigate the theoretical and empirical relationships between both constructs. This study presents the following contributions: it provides an overview and systematic of scientific production and the performance of publications in national and international scientific journals on tourism governance and competitiveness of tourist destinations; guides researchers to focus their publishing efforts on certain fields of research.
