General definitions conceptualize and analyze power relations from different perspectives. Tourism studies are not an exception to that. This study aims to highlight theoretical approaches of power in tourism studies and correlate them with Political Economy of Power (EPP), emphasizing its contributions to the advance of this topic of study in tourism. How is the issue of power addressed in tourism studies? Are there other contributions that can be pointed out to improve such investigations? Based on bibliographic research in books and scientific articles published between 2000 and 2018, tourism studies on power were identified in three main streams: local power, multidirectional power and power from habits of subjects in interaction. The EPP brings depth to some concepts and makes a semantic contribution, by verifying concepts and highlighting elements that allow the definition of power characteristics.
