Abstract

The production of information for decision-making in tourism is a sensitive and crucial issue that lacks appropriate instruments for its good management and efficient use. Over the last few years, the tourism observatories have gained relevance as they are institutional resources that allow the monitoring of tourism performance while providing public and private managers with information for better decision-making based on data. However, there is a lack of studies that try to compress the determining elements of these instruments. To fill this gap, this study builds a conceptual model of tourism observatories, considering the stakeholders involved, possible products derived from the ordering of data produced by the observatories and results derived from the efficient use of these instruments. The model derived from this study will allow us to understand the determinant elements of observatories, provide a taxonomic basis that can be used to assess the activities of observatories, and serve as a basis for the creation of new observatories.
