This article presents results from a study with crisis-migrant students from Venezuela and Haiti who attend a popular preparatory course and are enrolled at the Federal University of Minas Gerais, and were interviewed about their daily experiences on the street and at the University. Their responses reveal experiences where the migrant students found themselves confronted with issues of ethnicity, identity, and the fear of the Other. The students use metaphors that relate the image of the migrant to dirtiness, to something negative, and also employ metaphors to describe their feelings when talking about their daily experiences in Brazil and reaffirming their identity.
