Encyclopedia of Women (1958): contributions to a model of womanhood?

Resumen

This paper analyzes the printed work entitled Encyclopedia of Women, originally edited and published in Paris in 1950. The work circulated in Brazil between 1957 and 1973, with the volume that constitutes the corpus of the study being from 1958, which was translated and edited by Editora Globo of Porto Alegre – RS, Brazil. Through the methodology of discourse analysis (Orlandi, 1997), the objective is to relate the historical context of the edition with the permanence of its content. In addition to presenting the materiality of the work, two of the 16 chapters present in the Encyclopedia are analyzed, making it possible to know and reflect on the ideal model of woman.
